Hate To See It End

Well the time has come for my crazy Vegas vacation to end. As much as I hate to say it, I am eager to get back to my normal life. But at the same time, I hate to see it end so soon.

With all the fabulous things I have had the opportunity to do this week I have had a fabulous time. And I have a wonderful friend to thank for everything. She has shown me things that I have not previously seen. And we have shared some laughs along the way.

But alas the time has come to bid farewell to an incredible city. I truly hope to be returning real soon. Farewell Vaegas, and thanks for the memories. Now the time comes to begin planning my next adventure. Question is, what city should I explore next?

I have been having the most amazing time here in Las Vegas. I have seen things and been places I have never been before. I have been blessed to have a friend along on the trip that has visited the area so many times that they know where all the great spots are.

The other day I was taken to the most majestic spot ever. We went to Red Rock Canyon. I have seen the mountains from my hotel, but had never had the opportunity to visit them before. It was breathtaking to say the least. And I am glad that we took the time to visit the park.

And since the trip has been a working vacation for my husband, he has missed out on alot of the fabulous things that I have seen. Lucky for me, my husband has taken today off and is going to spend it with me. Now, it's time to see what adventures we can find.

Recommended Reading

During my flight from Michigan to Las Vegas last night, I had the wonderful pleasure to read the most moving book I have ever read. A friend of mine had recommended reading a book called: Mans search for meaning, by Viktor Frankl. It's a book that chronicles his experiences of life in a Nazi concentration camp during the Holocaust.

By far this has been the most memorable book I have ever taken the time to read. And while I am about a third of the way through it, I can't wait to be able to start to read it again. I would most definitely recommend this book to anyone who needs some inspiration in their life. Or even to individuals that do nothing more than feel sorry for themselves or their life situations. I can honestly say that I can see a change in my personal attitude towards life even after reading just a portion of the book.

I strongly recommended taking a moment to look at this book.

My Newest Addiction

Everyone has a favorite food that has become an addiction to them. You know what I am talking about. The foods that make your mouth water even when you just think about them. Well, I now officially have a new addiction.

My latest addiction is a twist on a summertime favorite, S'mores. Now I am sure that your thinking that S'mores are for kids. But, I have taken a classic and revamped it to suit my taste buds. I follow the usual design of graham crackers, and toasted marshmallows. But I substitute my favorite chocolate hazelnut butter for the chocolate bar. It gives me the right amount of chocolate and gooey marshmallow to satisfy my sweet tooth. And every time I eat one, it brings back pleasant memories of nights spent around the campfire at Girl Scout camp. Now who could resist a childhood favorite that gives you happy feelings? And what better way to unwind after a long day, than a soothing comfort food.

Who Knew

Who would have thought that McDonald's started out as a bar-b-Que restaurant. I never would have believed it if I hadn't stumbled upon this article on CNN. I found it to be a fascinating read on the history of McDonald's.

The Pain is Back

About a week before my thyroid surgery I paid a visit to see my orthopedic surgeon about a serious pain in my foot. I was told that it was either a stress fracture in my heel, or tendonitis in my heel. My instructions were to stay off my feet as much as possible so I could rest my foot.

So, for the last two weeks I have done just that. I have done everything in my power to stay off my feet as much as possible. And luckily the pain has subsided for the most part. Until yesterday when I made the decision to wear a dress with my "cute" sandals. And low and behold the pain has returned and with a vengeance. Now, here I am just four short days from my trip to Vegas and all my hopes of being able to wear my cute clothes has vanished. Since it looks like the only shoes I will be wearing are my tennis shoes that provide some relief from the pain.

Now, the fun can really begin since I need to shop for some clothes that will go well with sneakers. Guess I should have listened to my doctors advice and stuck with the shoes that won't hurt my feet. And since the pain has returned I guess I will have to pay another visit to see the doctor. Maybe we can finally find a solution to fix this problem once and for all.

Morale of the story......if your doctor tells you to wear only proper fitting shoes with good support, avoid the "cute" sandals. You can be cute once the cause of the pain has been fixed.

6 Days To Vegas

I am just 6 short days away from my trip to Vegas, and I am getting more anxious everyday. I have been busy the last two days trying to lose a few pounds before I go. And I am pleased to say that so far I am on track to a slightly slimmer me. I am officially down 2 pounds and steadily losing.

Today I hope to stay on track with a healthy diet of fruits and vegetables and by eating lean cuts of meat. I have some chicken breast that is marinating in a chile lime sauce before I put it on the grill. And the plan is to have that with some salads today. And of course I am drinking lots and lots of water. So, what are you doing today to make yourself healthier?

My Son Showing Off His Skills

A few months ago my husband and I decided to enroll our youngest son in Karate classes. He had been begging us for the longest to take the classes and since he was doing so well in school with his grades, we decided to give him what he wanted.

Once he was enrolled in the karate class he excelled at learning all the new skills. We were so impressed with his progress and his continued success at school, that we bought him a pair of practice nunchakus as a gift. Within the first day or two he was doing moves that had me in awe. So, one afternoon as he was outside in the backyard practicing, his older brother caught this video. Of course the actual video he captured was of my son being his usual funny self. Check it out if you like, hopefully it will bring a chuckle to your day

8 days to Vegas

I am excited about an upcoming trip for my husband and I. In just 8 short days I will be basking in the desert sun. Though I am somewhat disappointed in myself that the weight loss goal I set for myself for this trip was not achieved. I have not given up on myself just yet. I know realistically I won't be able to meet my goal in a week. I am however gonna try and lose 5 pounds between now and the time I leave. So, the next week I will be posting my daily progress, and what I'm doing to get there. And in the spirit of strength in numbers, I am recruiting volunteers to take a 7 day challenge with me. If your willing to step up to the plate and give it a shot, just leave me a comment, and on your personal blog repost the challenge. Let's see how many people we can get involved.

The challenge is: 1. Eat all the fruits and vegetables you want everyday. 2. Do some kind of exercise everyday. 3. Avoid fast foods 4. Avoid sugary foods

Simple enough don't you think! Any takers?

On My Way To Fitness

A couple of months ago I made a purchase of an item that I had been wanting for a long time. It wasn't exactly a cheap buy, but I got what I wanted. I bought myself a pedometer. Now I am sure your saying to your self "what's the big deal, you bought a pedometer". Well, it's not just an ordinary pedometer. I bought myself a fitbit. And if I do say so myself, it was a great purchase. While it was a bit pricey at $99 dollars, I think it was worth every penny I invested.

I bought the fitbit ultra and it has some rather spectacular features to it. It not only tracks how many steps you take each day, it also tells you how many stairs you have walked up, how many calories you have burned, and it will also monitor the quality of your sleep. And if you choose to there is even a Smartphone app that allows you to input what your eating everyday. If you choose to use the food tracker it even compares your activity level readings from the pedometer against what you are eating. And gives you a reading of your calories in, versus calories out.

My new toy has become an obsession for me. I find myself checking it often to see if I am meeting my daily goals. And I have found that it is inspiring me to move more and sit less. Plus, I have discovered that the website has given me so much information related to my fitbit, that I hardly know where to start to process the information.

So, if your looking for a way to motivate yourself to move more, or maybe just a way to track your current activity levels, I highly recommend looking into getting yourself a fitbit. And if you do, I am sure that you'll be on your way to a fitter you in no time

A Clutz In Disguise

Have you ever had one of those days when nothing comes out right? When every time you turn around you are falling over your own feet? Well today has been one of those days for me.

I can't help but laugh at how easily I can fall over my own two left feet. Well today I took one hell of a nose dive. I went to my garage to get something for dinner from my freezer and when I went to return to the house my shoe got caught in the door and I went face first onto the sidewalk. Of course it took me a few minutes to recover and stand up. And thankfully aside from a little road rash I am no worse for the wear. I guess in the future I need to be more careful and slow down and take my time.
